Eric Ambler: A Life in Pictures

Articles and interviews are a great way to find out more about an author you love, but there’s truly no better source for learning about people’s lives than their own words. We recently received a set of Eric Ambler’s personal photographs and, beyond the incredible glimpse into his life, these photos are a special find because the captions were written by the author himself.

It’s unsurprising that Ambler managed to turn caption writing into somewhat of an art-form. His captions are detailed, insightful passages, full of wit and wisdom — as you would expect from the man who Graham Greene named ‘unquestionably our best thriller writer’.

But we’ll stop writing now and let Ambler tell you about his life on his own.
