We’re nearing in on publication day for Laura Pearson’s third book, I Wanted You To Know, and we wanted you to know that it’s time to celebrate.
On October 2nd we’re hosting a book launch and fundraising extraordinaire benefiting Mummy’s Star, the only charity in the UK and Ireland supporting women and their families affected by cancer during, and after, pregnancy through financial aid, practical advice, and support.
We chose Mummy’s Star because it’s close to our hearts. Laura was diagnosed with breast cancer while she was five months pregnant. Faced with the possibility that her children might grow up without her, Laura, like her protagonist Jess, wrote her children a series of letters about everything she hoped to one day tell them in person. During Laura’s treatment, faced with the unthinkable and not knowing where to turn, she found support and hope in the women around her: her chemo nurses, her fellow patients, and the community she found in the charity Mummy’s Star.
This is what inspired us to create the I Wanted You To Know Campaign. This book, and Laura’s story, is a testament to the power that seemingly unremarkable moments have to shape and enrich lives. We’ve invited women to join in and share their extraordinary ordinary wisdom.
So – the fundraiser.
We want to give back to the charity that gave Laura so much. We’re selling tickets to our event in London, where you can buy a copy of I Wanted You To Know, have a few drinks, get glittered and pose in our photobooth with an I Wanted You To Know Card, and enter our raffle for a chance to win some wonderful prizes, including:
Joining Laura will be Fiona Mitchell — author of The Maid’s Room and, most recently, The Swap — for a chat about what it means to be a mother, a woman, and a writer.
It’s going to be a wonderful night of celebrating women, hearing from bestselling authors and doing good for an important cause. We’ll hope you’ll join us, and we cannot wait to meet you.
